Have your say on revised plans for Plot 6, Silverthorne Lane

Background

Work will soon commence to deliver the Silverthorne Lane development, a c£375m investment into Bristol’s Temple Quarter. The development received unanimous planning approval by Bristol City Council’s Development Control Committee in August 2020, but was delayed by a subsequent call-in inquiry. In April 2022 the development was finally given the green light to proceed by the Housing Minister at what is now the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and work to implement the planning permission is expected to commence in the Autumn of 2022.

The Silverthorne Lane development

The development consists of 6 plots, all with planning permission in place:

Plot 1

Outline planning permission for new building providing employment, research and learning space delivered by the University of Bristol as part of the adjacent Temple Quarter Campus.

Plots 2- 4

Full planning permission for a vibrant new canalside community of homes and commercial employment space delivered by Studio HIVE.

Plot 5

Full planning permission for Oasis Academy Temple Quarter - A long-awaited new secondary school and sixth form delivered by the Department for Education.

Plot 6

Plot 6 has full planning permission for a development of purpose-built student accommodation.

Revised proposals for Plot 6

Since planning permission was obtained, Plot 6 has since been acquired by a development team led by Studio HIVE. A new design team has been appointed to produce a new design for the student accommodation on Plot 6, that aims provide a more positive response to the site and its context, resulting in a slightly reduced overall height of the development and providing more open space on the canalside, as well as increased planting and opportunities for Biodiversity Net Gain.

While there is a planning permission already in place, the improvements we are proposing require a new planning application to be submitted for Plot 6 only (the remainder of the Silverthorne Lane development is unaffected, with work expected to commence imminently to implement the planning permissions for plots 1-5).

Before we submit a new planning application for Plot 6, we would welcome your feedback on the changes we are proposing. Please take a moment to view our proposals on this website before completing our online feedback questionnaire.
